My team was asked to come up with a logo for a new open source version of Javascript called TypeScript. We were given a rough skyline illustration for the hero image, and asked to create an alternative illustration and a logo for the product.
The illustration shown here is a concept illustrating how TypeScript works, producing cleaner, more meaningful code.
The first set of stakeholders requested a funky kind of mark, with the concept of "TypeScript helps you see your code better" Some ideas thrown out included a viewfinder, or other item that enhances vision. The ideas shown here incorporate the color palette that was proposed at the time.
These two logos became the "finalists" for these stakeholders, and we created a presentation that included the website mockup and some merchandise mockups to help sell them.

Midway through the process, the project was handed off to a completely different set of stakeholders who had their own concept ideas for the logo. Now we were to be inspired by the idea of sketchiness, blueprint, plans, handwritten architect type. I also incorporated the idea of a type designers sketches.
My design partner and I did many iterations of the blueprint idea requested, but ultimately it was decided to go with a simple segoe type treatment and and a I tweaked the original art to create a new version of the skyline. All assets © Microsoft all rights reserved.
