CodePush needed a logo and hero illustration for their github page. The product is a cloud service that lets developers push certain updates and bug fixes directly, bypassing the app store.
The pm's concept for the illustration was about being in two places at once. Shown here are sketches we did (some illustrations by Christine Daughtry) and some logo ideas I came up with to convey "pushing code."
After settling on the ray gun idea, I came up with a few versions to choose from, before we started work on the illustration. I typically show logos on dark and light backgrounds, full color and 1-color to see how the mark would look in any environment.
I finalized this illustration with Adobe Illustrator. The concept was a team effort with the PM and the other designer, Christine Daughtry, who created the "Seattle skyline space station." The "code" part of the illustration was tweaked several times to make sure it looked like friendly code, and not some kind of weapon.
